Drunkeness

[ ]   —   12:00 am

3:00am, A drunken post. thank to all of the guys(and some gals) that contributed to my birthday celebration. Especially the usual gang and Tyler, you are the man. There is a pic of most everybody who participatged her in my photo album. It was a very enjoyable evening, except for my early exit of food consumed, I was good. I blame it one the spirytus and friend chicken for making me a wee bit ill. otherwise I was able to take some alcohol i stride to make an interestin evening. The pictures have been somewhat moderated and the nughty ones do now show up here. Sarah is a great waitess and I hope someone tipped her well tonight, I would’ve but I did not purchase any drinks, oh well. Time for me to pass out in a somewhat peaceful slumber, thank to all, goodnight.

Happy Birthday to Me

[ ]   —   4:00 pm

What can i really say here, it is my birthday and I sit and update my blog. I think that says it all about me. On the up side I have purchased a present for myself today thank’s to Phil’s good luck I have obtained a new sound card as well as a THX certified set of 7.1 speakers for not a whole lot. I think we need to work with Phil on his bargaining skillz, I shot a fair price, he went lower. But thanks anyways, it was all profit to him. I have also obtained a 4 port wired linksys router from Fulljeff for my parents place, All for the low obscure price of $21.37, which i guess is a good compromise between $20-25. Tonight may prove to be interesting witht he possibility of a movie and dinner, with different people of course.

Last week, well, Friday was a small party with Abby at Erin’s place then to Amy and Ashley’s place for the birthday party for Ashley. I felt so very out of place at a college party, I prefer the bar or just a small gathering of friends. I guess I am getting old, I would rather just chill out, but it was interesting trying to remember how to play Euchre, but I didn’t do so horribly. I do believe we lost but hey its been a few years. I was also not able to join Abby in “the century club” thats all due to the fact that they started without me though. Saturday was a relatively tame day, just football and Xena on the tube, some computer gaming. Darrin and I went on a man-date for chicken wings at Hooters, so that was awesome, I love those wings. Sunday was a heartbreaking day of watching the Bears game, then being cut off on Fox sports to be able to listen to the game on AM640, only to hear the Bears fall again to their opponent by 2 points. Dinner with Abby at Olive Garden was good again, but there were no movies playing right after dinner, so I released her to go finish her homework. And I came home chilled to more football and Xena.

All in all it has been a relatively tame week at work, sometimes I get really busy but most of the time it has been a bit slow. I finally got all of the machines runnign the LCD monitors in the helpdesk area loaded. And as of today 1 is fully functional with an Alert Manager running on it. Bill should be getting back to me on the other ones, with a Heat Monitor and IP monitor. Lots of fun with blocking and unblocking people. I guess the official word is that the van can be salvaged at like $340 or something, now really who though that I could kill a van like that. There have been some good discussions with Ben about networking basics and some of the ways that we have things set up here at GV. This week the idea of going to Waltham, Mass. was killed, not enough people willing to go. I would have really loved to see GV in the first round of the playoffs, I hope they can perform again this year. Though I find out today that my pop would want to go. Its alright it opens up the time to party with friends up here. I did catch up on sleep this week, right after work on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday I got up to watch 24 at 9, then played around, Wednesday I stayed up and played with my NAS(Network Attached Storage) and got that up and running, which brings me back to today. I cannot get the FTP server I have to work over the GV firewall. seems that passive FTP doesn’t work quite right, oh well. That just opens up more investigative things to do around campus.

Nothing all that spectacular to write about. Last friday was a fun time, after work of course. Vanberge, Abby and I went to a party somewhere downtown, I think I remember where more or less anyhow. It was a nice change of pace from Mulligans, it was quiet enough to hear myself think, watching the games of “flippy cup” and then Berg playing some old-school hockey game I think on a genesis. It was definately cool, then a little Adobe afterwards, always puts a nice cap on a night of drinking, then to droop off Abby and Vanberge at their respective locations, after getting that picture of Vanberge sleeping on Payner’s ass. Then Maria stopped by after her night of out and about drinking with an old friend. She didn’t stay long, I was sleeping before they got there so I guess I wasn’t much fun. I’m used to that though.

Saturday was a fun time, I was able to spend some more quality time with Abby. We went to see Elf, that new Will Ferrell movie. That is a very funny man and the show definately believable, though he is such a good actor I’m sure that has something to do with it. I do not know exactly why the mall was so packed when i went to the 2:45 showing, but I had to park way the heck away from the theater. Maybe it was all the nerdy people that wanted to see The Matrix Revolutions that hadn’t already seen it during the week. Maybe it was the start of Christmas shopping, I don’t know. I do know that I have not started my shopping yet, nor do I know where to, well I lie, I got my parents some RAM for their new computer that was about $100 so its a start. I later ended up watching part of the lunar eclipse(thanks Darrin) while going tothe GR Griffins game. I met up with Maria and some of her friends at VanAndel Arena, we watched tthe game and BSed for a while, then left in the 3rd period to go to Friday’s where we spent a few hours talking and drinking. And I came home and passed out.

Eventually I will learn to stop going ot these computer shows with Tod, as there is really nothing worthwhile there to obtain. everything is old or outdated, or if not, at least severly overpriced. But that was a fun waste of an hour on a Sunday morning, then off to lunch and back home just in time to see The Bears play a “flat” game against the Lions where the Lions unfortunately got luckier than the Bear and won. Si decided that it would be a good idea to finish his furniture before he went to London, awesome, but kids for future reference, make sure you open a window when you’re staining. Theres a reason that is only supposed to be used in a well ventilated area. Anywho, I left becasue of the headache I was getting and visited Maria, we watched Harry Potter 2 and I guess I made her miss her miss her workout time, whoops. We chatted and sat around and hung out for a while which was cool. Then the rest of this week hasnt been all that exciting. Work, dinner with Berg, work, 24, work, dinner with Amy, the bachelor with Abby, work. Though 24 was definately a good time, I left not being able to wait for next week, I am so geeked about what is going to happen next. Today I found out that the Van is probably going to be toatled out. Isn’t that awesome, just a little fender bender destroys a university vehicle.

Matrix

[ ]   —   12:00 am

The Matrix Revolutions was a good movie. I would definately not put it in the same position as the original, it had its moments, but all in all I wasn’t happy with the ending or all of the action for that matter. I was expecting the gunfight in this one to be somewhat of a resemblance to the original “Lobby Scene” in the first movie, but the protection of the dock at Zion with all of the APUs seemed to redeem that somewhat. This was not a way to get me motivated to work the rest of this week. I got to do some fun virus/spyware removal from “a student’s” computer today, it was Abby, so it was actually somewhat fun. Little did I realize that she was absolutely swamped with spyware(731 items), and one persistent little virus. this is what I get paid for so I guess I was doing my job, and of course the good conversation to go along with it. Now she can successfully work online and not have to worry about those little popup ads. How good it feels to be able to help somone. I guess I’m doing my good deeds for the week, considering that I am running the “Grandville Express” this week for my coworkers, but hey I gotta do something not for myself at some point.

First off, I was apparently in an accident today, it wasn’t horrible, but it was enough to make me really nervous and jittery (almost like vandermeer). I was finishing out the “downtown run” from Allendale to DeVos, to CHS, to EC back to Allendale. Sitting in traffic in heading south on Campus Drive in allendale admiring the crack in the windshield getting bigger, I was suddenly thrust forward into the black probably S10 in front of me. Maybe if there was a rearview mirror in the van, well mounted anyhow, I would’ve seen the truck not stopping. In any case the overhead that was riding shotgun slammed into the dash then hit the floor, the slide projector in the back slid forward and tumbled into the back of my seat ….. they may still be functional. In any case, I got out of the van to make sure the other people were alright, not really realizing that I probably got the worst of it. I gave the guy behind me the “what the hell is wrong with you” look, he just stared at me and got out of “his” truck. The guy in front of me just asked if i as moving or stopped and made sure that I was alright. He then pointed out the puddle of green life quickly pouring out from the front of the van as I was quickly on the phone to Public safety to get an officer over to check out the situation. I then called the Wezeman to let him know that his van was smashed up, then called Bamm to let him know i can take a van out of comission as well, granted my timing wasn’t quite as good as his. I had called DC to have his guys pick up the equipment from the van, they didn’t rip on me too bad.

The people’s favorite officer Wayne Kooistra came to the scene, and informed me that it is illegal to play tag with vehicles. I told him that I wasnt participating voluntarily in this game, we shared a laugh, well I wasn’t so much laughing but nervously shaking. We had pulled into the middle entrance to parking lot C and waited while Wayne got the story down then took all the important information and filled out his paperwork. The guy in front of me got his paperwork back first as he went and talked to Wayne and probably headed off to class. That left me and the big red F250, which I cam to find out was a rented vehicle, whoopsie. hopefully he had insurance on that thing. Wayne came back up because apparently there was the wrong registration in the van, it was still from the old 88 that the consultants used to drive. He informed me that he got a “new” computer and needed some help getting it connected to the cable modem he had. We’ll have to talk about that later. He gave me my information back and told me to pull it into a spot and call the motor pool about it. I went and handed the keys back over to JW and went through the story with him. I then got Jason’s camera to take some pictures of the dead van. I also took a random picture of Lindsey because she is hot.

Went to lunch with Zammie and relaxed a bit, that was much needed. We talked about random things and some different AV solutions and what not for home theaters. After returning to campus and seeing the Weeze, I got some paperwork to fill out, which i need to wait and get some information from the Police Report. I was going to try to fill out the rest, but thats alright. I will do that tomorrow. Since JFK and JW said I should go home, at about 3 I decided to come home. I had a Magners and drifted off to sleep, only ot wake up 5 hours later to chat online and realize that I have nothing good to eat in the apt. I will eat tomorrow … besides I’m fat anyhow.

Yesterday was a unbelievably long Marathon meeting for the Vigil selection. When all was said and done there were 7 candidates for this year. I think the team made good choices and after some careful evaluation they were able to successfully achieve their purpose, but also realized the work that need to be done after this meeting. Meetings at TK’s house seem to go way too long, maybe we should change the meeitng place. the 8+ hours was the longest I have ever met on this committee, but not the longest that I have ever met at TK’s place. Way back in the fall of ‘98 probably was the planning for the Elangomat/Nimat training that we started in the lodge, that was another 8+ hour meeting. Eddie may wish to join me on the AT. I’m thrilled.

The rest of last week was pretty good as well, some time to be spent with Maria, thats always fun. I wish it was some more time spent with her, but that will change I’m sure. I just need to get things straight in my head as far as priorities go. Not getting too terrible lost on sleep this week was awesome. Tuesday it happened, Diablo 2 LOD patch 1.10 was released. It is awesome, I now have a level 51 Cold Sorc that is mucho fun to play. That was several hours of time. I am looking to hopefully relax and settle down the rest of this week. I am already looking forward to the weekend.
