More interesting times

[ ]   —   4:40 am

Obviously I need to keep up my intentions of updates on this here destination more often, lest I suffer the same fate of vanlandw.com, darrinbamm.org and the ill fated theamsterdam.us. Irregardless, well most of you know by this point that I have obtained full time employment. I am not a “Support Specialist” for the Reformed Church in America. I will get to cover all aspects of computer and information technology support fot the midwest General Synod of the RCA. I will be one fo 3 IT folks in the GR office, covering a wide variety of users and situations.

I met a gal at the bar, she has contacted me to get together. I would like to get together just to talk and possibly go out and enjoy some nature in the form of camping or hiking. I have needed someone to enjoy there activites with for a while now, maybe I will find someone to enjoy these things, maybe not.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to spend a bunch of time with Deanna and just chill, have some drinks food and good conversation. Apparently we have been getting together a couple time a week and it has been a good time, and I hope we have many more times to go out and chill some more. It has been awesome to have a good friend to come out and share my times at Founder’s with. I don’t know exactly what is so alluring about that place and those people, but I feel so at home and enjoy their company. I will have a few photos to post from Mulligans tonight to a Mulligans pics folder, but I am not sure when they will go up. I think it is about time for some napping.

Da Bulls!

[ ]   —   1:28 am

Well since the last update, I have been finding myself caught up in Chicago sports again. I can finally actually watch the Bulls, now that we have reached the playoffs and they are more widely televised. This first round playoff game was definately a step in the right direction for the team. This is the first time that they have made it to the playoffs since MJ left the bulls post 98 season. IT was a good showing and definately shows that they deserve to be in the playoffs and might actually do well. I would like to say that the colors on my website are in dedication to the Chicago basketball season, but it just happens to be a spiffy coincidence.

Da Sox are still showing their winning ways with their best season start in franchise history, which is definately cool considering the players that have left the team and how well Ozzie is managing the team. 15-4, hopefully they keep going and have the chance to take the pennant, I know this is quite an achievement to be talking about at this point in the season, but that is the whole reason that they play, to win.

Aside from sporting events, there have been good times going on. The microgathering of former co-workers down at on the border was a good time. It has been a while since we have gotten together to just bs and have a good time. We used to all go out to the bar all the time, but it has been a while since this group of people have been there, especially phil. I have been enjoying time out and just chillin out and talking with people lately. I will say that going out with Deanna has been quite enjoyable as we have met at the bar a few times this week and wow ….. can she cook. Our dinner on Friday was quite enjoyable good food, a good bottle of wine, and some good conversation make for a good evening. Finally after several weeks, I had a chance to go out with Abby and that group of people, that was a good time, but entirely too loud at Mulligans.

It seems that the bar is one of the best places to talk to people about business. I have gotten us involved with a local custom knife maker to mark his knives and boxes, possibly even some of the jewelry that he makes. A lot of titanium and damascus steel are in the variety of things that he will need marked. I hope that we are able to please that customer and make more sales via his works. Our first internet order has been filled and I can only hope that the customer was as happy with the product as I was.

Go Sox

[ ]   —   10:15 pm

Well for the first time since 1974 the Sox are off to the best start of a season many will remember, thought the 12-4 record to start off is failry amazing, what is even better is Nomar getting injured for the Cubs.

Sad news

[ ]   —   11:54 pm

Well, for those of you who haven’t already heard the sad news, Lance Armstrong has decided to retire after this year’s Tour de France. I guess for most of the world at large that doesn’t follow cycling, this isn’t such a big deal, but for anyone who follows sports, this is on par with the retirement of Michael Jordan(which time is debatable), but he is one of the greatest icons in Sports history and a hero to many. If for no other reason than he is now dating Sheryl Crow.

More news from Michigan ….

[ ]   —   1:40 am

Really, there is no news to speak of, well maybe some would consider it news that I have started reading a book. It is an interesting book, not really what I was expecting out of the book, but I will continue reading it because it is quite entertaining. The book is “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson, essentially it is a book about his experiences on the Appalachian Trail. I am 9 chapters into the book right now, and I find it absolutely amazing how different his way of thinking is. I will guess that having lived 20 years in Europe would put him out of touch with the reality of what life in the US is like, but still.

To this point he has stated that nobody in the US works out, hikes or walks anywhere. I know we are lazy but I think this is a statement far from the truth, I mean, I am a lazy person, but I still get out and walk and bike and generally get some exercise. He has also serious issues with the southern US. I can’t say for a fact that Georgia is really free of hillbilly’s like from Deliverance, I believe that he is hitting the stereotypes pretty hard.

The whole idea of hiking the AT has always seemed like an epic undertaking, which I think the idea of hiking over 2100 miles would seem a fairly hefty task for any person with a reasonable head on their shoulders. Heck, driving that far would take a decent amount of time, and takes most people a good 4-5 months. Why would anyone who just casually walks consider this to be “a walk in the woods”. Just thinking about some of this is enough to get me a little pist, but that is in combination with some other developements. Maybe by the end of the book, I will warm a bit to the author’s style of writing, I know I do some strange things, but I at least like to be informed of things before I pass on the information. I find it hard to believe that he has done much research on a lot of the tangents that he goes off upon. I also woul dnot consider him to have hiked the AT, as of where I left off, he has just skipped a portion of the trail by driving to another state and continuing…….

Wallflower Systems

[ ]   —   5:24 am

So this has been something that I have ebeen interested in for a while. There are many products out there that claim to be excellent Digital Picture Frames, but this one seems to offer the most flexibility and resolution. I know it is a bit expensive, but it is still a cool idea. For some reason I dont really want one of the 5.6″ digital frames, I don’t think that would do my photos justice. Granted, my photos arent the best out there but I enjoy it, so there ….

More Theories

[ ]   —   3:08 am

So I have heard comments weighed in from many people on why my neighbor lady is not as crazy as I think, but I disagree and think shes still a bit off in the head. I should go get some crisco and grease the feeder pole, that was always so much fun watching the critters crawl up the pole and slide down. I think I will leave out the second half of Jeff’s suggestion to take out the critters with a pellet gun. I still need to get a photo of this phenomenon, but I am waiting for the appropriate light.

I have taken a shot at working on websites and I realize that I am not really good at it, so maybe I shall just stop trying to do a profesional looking site and keep with this fun theme pulled together by Jeff. I guess If I can get what I need done, then I will be set. It’s alway trying to get something to work that you haven’t done before and really have no idea how to implement. One would think that basically copying a website and making it more compatible and easier to maintain should be easy. I am sure that it would be easy if it wasnt something that I was doing. Many of the programmer people I know should be able to pull this together in a matter of minutes, but not so for me.

Well there hasn’t been too much going on recently for me, still waiting on callbacks from potential employers. I’ve been hanging out much more than usual with the friends, and it has been good. I will definately miss the dutch kid when he moves down to Chicago, but thats not too far away. Hopefully I will find something to keep my day busy and allows me to have fun with some other people.

It is coming up in the not too distant future, the LATE Ride. This year it looks like it will be Todd and I as usual with the additions of Jason and Nicolette. If there is anyone else that is interested in joining our group to ride, let me know and we will be more than happy to expand the group, its easier to cause damage that way. I am looking forward to it and the Holland Hundred again this year, any company for the Holland Hundred would be quite welcome as well.
