Wow, shall we attribute this to the trend in todays society for people of all ages and background to appreciate a good beer, thus bringing them to higher class pubs and microbreweries. I can say for a fact that I do not typically go to these neighborhood taverns that serve nothing more than bottom shelf liquors and bad domestic brews. But maybe I have grown too accustomed to the bars of Grand Rapids, specifically the Brewpubs I enjoy frequenting. Even the bars, I do not associate with any low life activities liste din this article, though I do not hang out in every neighborhood. Though I do hit enough variety I shoudl see something.
Alright this amuses me, especially the part, “police bike patrol officers step up their presence on the path during summer and issue citations for bikers going too fast for conditions. (There is no posted speed limit.)” It is nice to see some of Chicago’s finest enforcing the “laws”? In any case, the lycra wearing cyclists are supposed to be savvy road bikers, so they should know how to deal with pedestrians. I think this would clearly fall to the people out there who don’t belong. I will have to agree that most of the cyclists I have seen and ridden with in Chicago do show little to no regard to the Cycling rules of the road. I am surprised that I have never seen a horrible taxi-bike accident on one of the rides I have been in, obviously due to both having no regard for common sense or the rules.
It also falls a lot to pedestrians out there. I have seen stupid people walk right in front of moving bicycles, roller bladers and vehicles. While A car/Taxi going at “slower” speeds can stop for a pedestrian quickly and safely, many times a cyclist cannot. If I were to try to avoid a random pedestrain in my path, I would most likely putting myself in much more jeopardy by getting myself in the path of a motor vehicle or other hazzard. Cars and trees are not all that forgiving at 12 mph on a bike, more or less the 18-22mph I like to do on an open road.
I don’t really know what the point of this post was, maybe just a mindless (mindful) rant, whatever. I feel better.
Really, there is no news to speak of, well maybe some would consider it news that I have started reading a book. It is an interesting book, not really what I was expecting out of the book, but I will continue reading it because it is quite entertaining. The book is “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson, essentially it is a book about his experiences on the Appalachian Trail. I am 9 chapters into the book right now, and I find it absolutely amazing how different his way of thinking is. I will guess that having lived 20 years in Europe would put him out of touch with the reality of what life in the US is like, but still.
To this point he has stated that nobody in the US works out, hikes or walks anywhere. I know we are lazy but I think this is a statement far from the truth, I mean, I am a lazy person, but I still get out and walk and bike and generally get some exercise. He has also serious issues with the southern US. I can’t say for a fact that Georgia is really free of hillbilly’s like from Deliverance, I believe that he is hitting the stereotypes pretty hard.
The whole idea of hiking the AT has always seemed like an epic undertaking, which I think the idea of hiking over 2100 miles would seem a fairly hefty task for any person with a reasonable head on their shoulders. Heck, driving that far would take a decent amount of time, and takes most people a good 4-5 months. Why would anyone who just casually walks consider this to be “a walk in the woods”. Just thinking about some of this is enough to get me a little pist, but that is in combination with some other developements. Maybe by the end of the book, I will warm a bit to the author’s style of writing, I know I do some strange things, but I at least like to be informed of things before I pass on the information. I find it hard to believe that he has done much research on a lot of the tangents that he goes off upon. I also woul dnot consider him to have hiked the AT, as of where I left off, he has just skipped a portion of the trail by driving to another state and continuing…….
I am not satisfied with some of the image quality I am recieving from this scanner. I decided to contact HP’s customer care, and this was one of their suggestions to resolve the problem.

After missing the delivery of my replacement wireless card on Friday, I was quite eager to recieve the package today. That would have been great. Well the DHL/airborne man came and delivered a package from Dell. I figured this whole incident was behind me and I wouldn’t have had to sped time on the phone with them. So I open the package, and much to my chagrin, there was no card in the box. All of the weight of the package was the multilingual setup guide and the CD. The package did not have a card in it, The sealed package with the CD and manual, was not in fact sealed there was a slit in the package where something could have been removed. So after another hour and a half on the phone with Tech support trying to get it resolved, by which time the department which would ship out the card was closed. They claim they will call tomorrow to get it confirmed, I don’t understnad what they need to know, they have all of my information. Well they have a whole hell of a lot of information on their records for me wrong. They finally have the right phone number, but for some reason are using an old address I never has this order shipped to, so I don’t know how they even got it. Oh well I will demand some quicker service this time. Until later …..
Apparently my phone has decided to not ring tonight, or give me notice of voicemails. This has caused some anger. First off I have missed dinner. I still do not have food in my apartment, so I was really looking forward to that, and I hate to keep pestering people when they say they will call. I am the one at fault, at least nextel is. Apparently DELL did indeed call back to check if i am still having problems with my wireless connection. I don’t know why they troubles would stop, last night she was just able to verify that she couldnt find the order for the wireless card. What a dumbass. She calls back and says she will email me, that has not happened either. The callback has also come after 9pm, whatever time that is over where-ever-the-hell she is providing some outsourcd support. Now I will go through this grand run around again, and then get find something to do other than go grocery shopping.
I cant figure out doing popout vertical menus either on the web. I am mad.
I am currently boycotting Hungry Howies. They do not want to accept my money for pizza. I did not realize that they are such a small company that they choose to decline out of state checks. They will not accept a credit card, they will only take a “local check” or cash. Too bad for them. I am still hungry, fuck Hungy Howies. The driver does not even have the decency to tell me that he talke dto the manager and that is their policy. He just drives off, I hope he gets in a damn accident.
